Your business description is one of the most important parts of your listing for Google ranking. Here is how to write one that works.
The basics
- Write at least 100 words — Google rewards longer, more detailed content
- Mention your city or neighbourhood (e.g. "based in Limbe, Southwest Region")
- Include your main services in natural language
- Explain what makes your business different
Use the formatting tools
The description editor lets you format your text. Use these effectively:
- Heading — use for section titles like "Our Services" or "Why Choose Us"
- Normal — use for body paragraphs
- Bullet lists — great for listing services or features
- Bold — highlight important words or phrases
What to include
- A brief overview of your business (2–3 sentences)
- Your main services or products
- Your location and the areas you serve
- Your experience or qualifications
- A call to action — e.g. "Contact us today on WhatsApp for a free quote"
What to avoid
- Keyword stuffing — do not repeat the same word unnaturally many times
- Copying from another website — Google penalises duplicate content
- Leaving the description blank or too short
